CFCC to observe moment of silence for Oregon campus shooting victims
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Community College will take part in a national moment of silence Thursday to honor the victims of a shooting last week at a community college in Oregon.
Nine people died in the shooting at Umpqua Community College, which ended when the shooter took his own life as police closed in.
To honor the victims, community colleges all over the country will pause Thursday. Cape Fear Community College students, employees and the general public are invited to participate in the moment of silence at 2 p.m. The event will be held in the patio area behind the Union Station building at the Wilmington Campus and in the patio area behind the McKeithan Center at the North Campus.
Instructors and students who are in class at 2 p.m. are encouraged to honor this moment in their classrooms.
This nationwide effort is being coordinated by the American Association of Community Colleges.
