CFCC to offer introduction to battery electric vehicle safety course

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Community College is equipping students and automotive professionals with the essential knowledge and hands-on skills needed to work with fully electric vehicles.

The introduction to battery electric vehicle safety course will be held on Saturday, January 10th from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at CFCC’s Union Station.

Participants will pay $70 and can register online to gain experience in identifying high-voltage components in electric vehicles, performing safe shutdown, isolation, and lockout/tagout procedures, understanding charging systems, charging levels, and related infrastructure, and using diagnostic tools to verify a safe working state.

“This course prepares students for the realities of working with electric vehicles by emphasizing safety, awareness, and correct procedures,” said Erin Easton, CFCC Vice President of Economic and Workforce Development and Continuing Technical Education. “As EV technology advances, CFCC will continue to provide accessible workforce training that meets industry needs.”

CFCC says the demands for electric vehicles is continuing to grow meaning more individuals will need to proper safety training.
