CFCC’s new Humanities & Fine Arts Center ready for Saturday’s gala

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The new, state-of-the-art Humanities and Fine Arts Center is ready for its first big show in Downtown Wilmington.

Construction on the facility, which includes a 1,500-seat theater, studios, classrooms and offices, was completed in late summer. Its inaugural performance season kicks off Saturday with a show featuring Broadway star Liza Minnelli and the North Carolina Symphony. The performance will be part of a black-tie gala.

With twenty-four classrooms, the center will also house Cape Fear Community College’s Humanities and Fine Arts Department. Students worked alongside professionals to build and design the facility, and they will also have the opportunity to work with staff for the various productions the center will see.

“Allowing them to build their resume before they leave here, before even they get out into the workforce will be a great asset for them,” said Shane Fernando the center’s director.

Other performances at the venue include “Beauty at the Beast.”
