NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — CFPUA will begin a two-week flushing program in the Monterey Heights water system starting at 11 p.m tonight (7/8).

System flushing is a routine maintenance operation conducted by thousands of water utilities every year. During flushing, water is forced through pipes at high velocity and systematically flushed out of the fire hydrants, removing accumulated sediment.

To reduce impacts to customers, flushing will be conducted between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m., Monday nights through Friday mornings.

The flushing process does not impact the safety of drinking water, and CFPUA does not anticipate issuing boil water advisories as a result of the flushing program.

Maps of the areas in the Monterey Heights system to be flushed are available at this link.

From Monday, July 8, to Friday, July 12, zones 1A, 1B, and 1C will be flushed. From Monday, July 15, to Friday, July 19, zones 2A, 2B, and 2C will be flushed.

Customers may experience periods of low pressure and/or water discoloration while flushing is being conducted in their areas. Customers who do experience discoloration are advised to run the cold water for at least one to three minutes to allow the lines to clear.

CFPUA also asks customers to be aware of crews working in their neighborhoods and to drive safely in and around work zones.
