CFPUA to expand pilot test program to remove GenX, other chemicals

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Public Utility Authority says it will expand their pilot test program at the Sweeney Water Treatment Plant.

This week, CFPUA will begin using new types of filtration to determine if it will help get GenX and other contaminants out of the Cape Fear River.

The goal of the pilot test is to measure and compare breakthrough rates between different brands and technologies allowing CFPUA to find the most effective design.
