CFPUA warns against lifting sewer pipe manholes for water run-off

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – CFPUA says it’s getting reports that people are taking manhole covers off sewer pipes and letting standing rainwater run into them.

That causes problems, says CFPUA Spokeswoman Carey Disney Ricks, because the sewer system isn’t designed to handle a lot of stormwater. An overload, she says, can cause the sewer system to overflow into area streams and creeks.
