Checkpoints to increase on water and roads this weekend

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Law Enforcement is stepping up patrols on the water and the roads to close out the “On the Road, On the Water, Don’t Drink and Drive” campaign.

Starting Friday and continuing through Labor Day, drivers and boat operators across North Carolina should expect sobriety checkpoints or increased enforcement patrols to help deter impaired operation of vehicles and vessels.

The annual multi-agency initiative works to ensure everyone can travel safely on the road and on the water during summer holidays. In North Carolina, a driver or boat operator with a blood-alcohol concentration that meets or exceeds .08 is subject to arrest.
