Chefs cook for top chowder title in Pleasure Island

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce held their 19th Annual Pleasure Island Chowder Cook-Off on Saturday at the Carolina Beach Lake.

Chefs from several restaurants in southeastern North Carolina prepared their best seafood chowder recipes.

Visitors were able to sample a taste of all types of chowders then vote for their favorite one.

Bruce Holsten is the Secretary of Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce and says he loves chowder.

“The best kind has a lot of bacon, a lot of clams, and just the right amount of cream,” said Holsten. “Each restaurant has a different recipe, some are red chowders and some are cream chowders,” Holsten says.

The Judge’s Choice winner was Gibby’s Dock and Dine and People’s Choice winner was Havana’s Resturant.

It wasn’t just chowder at the cook-off though, there was plenty of other food vendors along with entertainment.
