BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A 5-year-old child was killed after being ejected from a vehicle in a Tuesday morning crash in Brunswick County.

The NC Highway Patrol says they responded to a single vehicle collision at 4:56 a.m. on US 74 eastbound near Mt. Misery Rd. in Brunswick County.

Trooper Coffey discovered a 2007 Chrysler Van facing west bound in the east bound lanes with damage on the right side. The sliding door window on the passenger side was broken out.

The Highway Patrol says the van ran off the road to the right and struck a metal guardrail on the shoulder. A back seat passenger was ejected out the passenger side – sliding door – window.  They say the driver continued eastbound about a half mile before realizing the passenger had been ejected. The driver then returned to the scene to look for the passenger. A Brunswick County Deputy was able to locate the body of the passenger, who died on the scene.

Amanda Wright Bridgers was the child’s mother, and was arrested for misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, along with fail to maintain lane, careless and reckless, child restraint violation, misdemeanor child abuse and misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
