Children’s Museum of Wilmington to host sensory-friendly event March 1

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Children’s Museum of Wilmington will host its next Sensory Sunday event on March 1 from 10 a.m. to noon.
Sensory Sunday offers a sensory-friendly museum experience for children with sensory sensitivities and their families. During the event, the museum adjusts its standard operations to better accommodate children with varying sensory, developmental and physical needs.
Visitors can expect fewer guests, reduced lighting and sound, and designated calming spaces. The museum will also provide free sensory items for checkout, including Power Packs, headphones and sound maps.
The Children’s Museum of Wilmington first introduced Sensory Sunday in 2022. Executive Director Jessie Goodwin said the program has become an important part of the museum’s efforts to support inclusive play.
“Sensory Sundays are about creating a Museum experience where every child can feel comfortable, confident, and curious,” Goodwin said. “Over the past four years, this program has become an important way we support inclusive play for our community, and we’re excited to continue welcoming families for another sensory-friendly day of learning and exploration.”
Admission is $5 per person. Tickets can be purchased in advance online. Museum staff will monitor capacity to help maintain a comfortable environment for guests.
The museum plans to continue hosting Sensory Sundays throughout 2026. The next event is scheduled for April 12.
