Chris Flemmings, Denzel Ingram Selected In NBA G League Draft

WILMINGTON, North Carolina (UNCWSports.com) – Chris Flemmings and Denzel Ingram, who combined to win 54 games, score 2,003 points and carry UNCW’s Seahawks to a pair of Colonial Athletic Association championships and NCAA berths, were selected early Saturday in the 2017 NBA G League Draft.

Just 16 hours after attending his first Midnite Madness festivities as a fan, Flemmings, a native of Cary N.C., was the seventh overall pick by the Reno Bighorns. One of his backcourt mates, Ingram, from Chapel Hill, N.C., went in the third round to the Greensboro Swarm as the 58th pick.

Flemmings, a talented 6-5,180-pound guard, was a two-time First-Team All-Conference selection in the Colonial Athletic Association and led the Seahawks to back-to-back league titles after transferring from Barton College. He averaged 15.8 points 5.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists last season as the Seahawks went a robust 29-6 and dominated the CAA.

“I’m just thankful for the opportunity and look forward to getting back on the court again,” said Flemmings, who leaves early Sunday for Reno. It will be his first trip to Nevada.

“I’m ready to go. I was just nervous not knowing the outcome, so I’m glad it’s over. I would like to thank my family, my teammates, the coaches and all of the UNCW fans for helping me, and for their support.”

Flemmings appeared in 68 games over two seasons for the Seahawks and became the 22nd player in UNCW history to reach 1,000 points in a victory over Towson on Feb. 23, 2017. The special player racked up a combined 1,970 points in 127 collegiate games at Barton and UNCW.

He closed out his career at UNCW scoring 1,087 points, grabbing 305 rebounds and dishing out 128 assists. Flemmings shot 49.0 percent from the field and 79.3 percent at the free throw in his two seasons with the Seahawks.

Flemmings was also one of the most efficient players in the league in 2016-17, ranking among the CAA’s top players in nine different statistical categories.

Ingram, meanwhile, averaged 14.6 points, 2.2 rebounds and 5.4 assists in a spectacular senior season. The nifty 6-0, 175-pound guard reached double figures in scoring in 26 games and started all 35 games for the Seahawks.

A Second-Team All-CAA pick and All-CAA Tournament choice, Ingram set a new single season record for assists by a senior with 189 dimes and that total represented the second highest ever by a player in a single season.

Ingram wound up with 916 points in two seasons with the Seahawks after transferring from UNC Charlotte. He finished his four-year collegiate career with 1,332 points at the two schools.
