Christmas tree recycling underway

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — You can get rid of your Christmas for free if you live in New Hanover County.

There are three locations to drop off your tree for recycling: Home Depot on Carolina Beach Road, Ogden Park or the New Hanover County Landfill.

Before you drop it off, just make sure all the decorations and lights are off of it.

Home Depot associate Neal Reeves says they are contributing as well.

“The trees we don’t sell, we also recycle them in here at our station, and Planet Green takes care of them, and the county distributes them wherever they are needed,” Reeves said.

Reeves says they are even used to fill sand dunes on the beach.

You have plenty of time to recycle your tree. The last pick-up for the trees is Feb. 3.
