City Council approves 1st vote for cottage housing

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington is one step closer to getting cottage housing.

The Wilmington City Council approved a first vote Tuesday night to allow the developments. The cottages would be small, single-family, homes clustered around a common courtyard area.

Developers say these types of developments would maximize the number of homes in a smaller amount of space and help grow a stronger sense of community.

City Council will have a final vote at their Sept 1 meeting.
