City Council approves first reading for funds to Wilmington Police
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington City Council approved funding for the Wilmington Police Department to form a unit that will help keep the peace during protests and demonstrations, but it’s just for the first reading.
$41,000 of state drug tax funds would go towards forming a mobile field force team.
The 30-member team would be trained in deescalating tense situations.
The money would cover the cost of equipment, supplies and training for the new team.
Council will vote on a second reading at their next meeting.
