City council vote expedites demolition of Water Street parking deck

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – Wilmington city leaders approved a change to its development agreement with the company set to tear down the Water Street parking deck for a twelve story condo and apartment complex.

City council voted on the change tonight. It will allow the developer to begin demolition of the deck this month.

It also does not require the developer to begin construction until a later date.

The city says they made the change because the developer was awaiting approvals for financial loans on the project.
