City, county celebrate new bus transfer station

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Seven years of work has finally paid off. The region’s first indoor bus transfer facility is here.

Wilmington and New Hanover County leaders celebrated the Forden Station grand opening this afternoon.

The facility near Costco will act as the new hub for public transportation in the Cape Fear.

“It took the work of a lot of people coming together: the federal government, the state government, local governments, both city and county, working with citizens, working with the transit authority, making this a reality,” Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo. “We’ve been working on this for seven years, and I’m just so happy that all of this hard work and effort has come to fruition.”

The mayor says the new bus terminal will bring more people and businesses to the area. He also says the shelter will be nice in bad weather.
