WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington City Council met for an agenda briefing on Monday. One of the two agenda items that council discussed is the availability of ADA access at Live Oak Bank Pavillion.

Community Services Director Amy Beatty presented some of the challenges the pavilion faces as it heads into its fourth season of operation. According to Beatty’s presentation, the city is planning to add 44 new ADA parking spaces for concerts.

But ADA access was not the only point of concern Beatty addressed. She also recommended closing a portion of the riverwalk surrounding the pavilion during concerts for safety and creating a plan for emergency evacuations.

“What we want to do is be proactive,” Beatty said. “The last thing that I or the fire chief, or police chief, or any of us want to do is come before you after a catastrophic incident and retroactively make changes.”

Council will reconvene to discuss ADA access and Live Oak Bank Pavillion evacuation plans at their meeting Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
