City pauses plan to clear community-made median garden in Downtown Wilmington

DOWNTOWN WILMINGTON (WWAY) — A public median in the Brooklyn Arts District in Downtown Wilmington was set for clearing by the city.

Located on North 5th Street downtown, the median is decorated with flowers, plants, and trinkets such as bird baths and stone benches.

The median garden was created by neighbors to halt trash and debris from cluttering the space.

However, over time, it became overgrown and cluttered.

The city posted signs saying it was going to clear the area November 12th; however, the city tells WWAY the median was not cleared, and removal has been paused to evaluate what they call ‘options.’
