Civietown Fire Department to get new station building

SUPPLY, NC (WWAY) — Civietown Volunteer Fire Department in Brunswick County will be getting a new building after more than 50 years in its current location.

The building they’re currently in was constructed in the early 1970s and has become unable to fully accommodate the department’s members and staff.

The new building will be about 10 feet longer and 15 feet wider than the current building.

It will feature new training spaces, offices, and rooms for firefighters to sleep.

Chief Mark Hewitt said the new facility will better equip staff to respond and help more people in the county.

“Brunswick County is the number one in the county or one in the state growing so our call volume has almost doubled this year cause there are so many people moving in that we just can’t handle the volume,” Hewitt said. “Once we get the new facility in place, then we can start worrying about more paid personnel, answer more on-calls.”

Hewitt said once surveying is done, construction will begin and he hopes to be in the new building by Christmas.
