Closing arguments given in Maple Hill triple murder trial

BURGAW, NC (WWAY) — The trial of a Pender County man alleged to have killed three people is almost over.

Both the prosecution and the defense gave closing arguments on Wednesday, December 7th in the trial of Michael Miller Jr.

Miller is accused of shooting and killing 26-year-old William Coley and 22-year-old Destiny Greene, who was 7 months pregnant at the time, in November of 2020.

The defense claims no pieces of evidence pointed to Miller, with all roads pointing to someone else.

William Toby Smith is also charged in the three murders but has not gone on trial for his alleged role.

He testified against Miller during this trial.

The jury deliberated for about an hour Wednesday afternoon before the court adjourned for the day.

The trial and deliberation will continue at 9:30 am on December 8th.
