Coast Guard rescues man suffering from burns


ELIZABETH CITY, NC (WWAY) — The Coast Guard medevaced a 28-year-old man Saturday from a container ship 20 miles east of Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Sector Hampton Roads watchstanders received a report around 10:30 a.m. that a man aboard the Maersk Santana container ship suffered burns on his arms and legs.

A helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City launched to medevac the man. The helicopter crew arrived at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where the man was transferred to awaiting EMS personnel.

The patient was last reported in stable condition.
