Coastal Buds kicks off early celebration for World Down Syndrome Day

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — World Down Syndrome Day is March 21st, but one local organization is already celebrating early. Coastal Buds of Southeastern North Carolina hosted a fun-filled event at Waterline Brewery on Saturday.

The event featured a variety of activities, including a puppet show, games, and even a reptile petting zoo. This family-friendly celebration focused on inclusivity, an important value for Coastal Buds. According to the organization’s Board President, Anethia Wiggins, inclusivity is at the heart of their mission.

“We always tell people to come, bring a friend, tell a friend… nobody is excluded. So we definitely want everyone to hear about it, know about it, and be about it. Let’s support each other because each day is a different journey in everyone’s lives,” Wiggins shared.

If you missed Saturday’s kickoff event, don’t worry—the celebration continues!

Coastal Buds will host another event at Celtic Creamery on March 21st. The event will feature a special ice cream flavor, with a percentage of the proceeds benefiting Coastal Buds.
