Coastal Horizons holds event for Mental Health Awareness Day
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Promoting mental health awareness and connecting people with resources and support was the aim of an event held Thursday in Wilmington marking World Mental Health Awareness Day.
Coastal Horizons hosted the event at its office in the Willie Stargell Office Park off Shipyard Boulevard.
Attendees could talk with community partners, get access to mental health resources, and take part in mindfulness activities like yoga.
Samantha Kiger is with Coastal Horizons.
She said it allowed people to learn more about the programs and services available for anyone facing a mental health challenge.
“I think it was just kind of important for us to kind of come together as a community and let people know, it’s really hard, honestly, navigating the mental health system,” Kiger said. “And so, the more that we can connect as agencies together, the easier we can make that on the people that need help. And so I think that was our goal was to just kind of bring a bunch of different partners together to serve the community.”
World Mental Health Day was first observed on October 10th, 1992 and on Thursday, millions of people around the world take part in different initiatives to mark the day.
