Columbus County animal shelter opening on certain Saturdays

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) – For those who work during the week, you now have a Saturday option to adopt a pet from the Columbus County animal shelter.

Shelter manager, Joey Prince, says many residents asked for Saturday hours during their Clear the Shelter event in July and the Open House in June. For now, the shelter will open from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on the first Saturday of each month for the rest of the year.

Prince says many people wanted to view and adopt the pets of the shelter, but that they couldn’t during the normal work week hours that the shelter is open. In addition, many rescues organizations rely on volunteers to help save the animals, and those volunteers find a Saturday pick up to be easier to schedule.

Prince plans to monitor the Saturday hours to see if there’s enough interest to keep the shelter open on select Saturdays throughout the next year.
