Columbus County Bridge project to improve drainage

RIEGELWOOD, NC (WWAY) — A part of road in Columbus County will close for construction of a new bridge.

On Monday, part of Neils Eddy Road over Mill Creek east of Fertilizer Road for construction.

The bridge will replace three drainpipes and improve drainage as well as protect the road against future flooding.

Drivers will be detoured onto Fertilizer Road in Columbus County, which becomes Northwest Road NE in Brunswick County, and onto Blue Banks Loop Road NE and Goose Neck Road NE, which becomes Neils Eddy Road in Columbus County.

NCDOT says the project is set to be completed in May and then the road will reopen.

The Lumberton-based contractor, The Tara Group, won the $832,628 bid for the work in September.

Drivers are encouraged to be cautions near the work site.
