COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A teenager faces charges after investigators say he filed a false worker’s comp claim.

Special agents with the NC Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division charged Timothy Alexander Riley, 19, of Delco, with one count of insurance fraud, a felony.

According to a news release, Riley told Walmart’s Claims Services Department that a pallet of merchandise fell on him. He later filed a claim for worker’s compensation. Video evidence later revealed that he had moved out of the way of a falling pallet without being struck.

According to the arrest warrant, it happened on Jan. 26, 2025.

Riley was arrested and released on a $25,000 unsecured bond. He appeared in Brunswick County District Court on March 11.
