Columbus County Municipal Airport holds groundbreaking event for new terminal

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A groundbreaking event is allowing an airport to soar to new heights.

The Columbus County Municipal Airport is receiving a new terminal building.

Wilmington based Thomas Construction Group has been selected as the general contractor for this project.

The project will consist of a two story, more than 6,000 sq. ft., wood framed building. That’s nearly 4,000 sq. ft. larger than the current building.

N.C. State Representative Brenden Jones said Wednesday’s groundbreaking added to the county’s long list of improvements.

“This groundbreaking ceremony not only marks the beginning of construction, but it symbolizes a new chapter in Columbus County history. One filled with promise, opportunity and prosperity for generations to come,” Representative Jones said.

There will also be increased office space. These upgrades will provide economic development for travelers, stakeholders, and residents in Columbus County.
