Columbus County pups get ‘Christmas in July’
COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Joey Prince at the Columbus County Animal Shelter said they have received “three great Christmas in July presents” from community groups over the last few days.
Prince said the Columbus Humane Society donated the doggie equivalent of the California King with 10 new beds for the dogs. These bed are of a top quality design and are designed to be “chew-proof,” and therefore are safer for the animals. The beds the shelter have been using are very old and worn out, so the replacement could not have come at a better time.
The next gift came from the Brunswick County Fix-A-Friend. A portable air conditioning unit has been added to the feral cat room to assist the shelter in keeping the temperature at a comfortable level. The feral cat room is usually a few degrees warmer than the rest of the shelter, so they are now able to keep the feral cats much more comfortable.
Prince also wants to give special thanks to a very good friend who anonymously donated 25 Thunder Shirts to the shelter. Thunder Shirts apply a gentle, constant pressure on a dog’s or cat’s torso. It is believed by many experts that this type of pressure works in a similar manner to swaddling an infant or people with autism using pressure to reduce persistent anxiety.
