Columbus County Schools Indian Education Parent Committee holds meeting
COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Tuesday night a meeting was held to ensure Native American students and their families take advantage of the opportunities provided for them in Columbus County.
The Indian Education Parent Committee met Tuesday night at Hallsboro Artesia Elementary School.
The nearly $80,000 budget for the school districts Indian Education Project was up for discussion.
The budget includes money for two Indian Education Assistants at Hallsboro Artesia and East Columbus High School. The budget also allocates money to send qualifying students to the annual North Carolina Native American Youth Organization Conference.
Tamra Carter is Columbus County Schools Director of Indian Education. She said families need to take advantage of the program.
“It’s very important that parents make sure, if their student is American Indian, they could be part American Indian or full American Indian, making sure they have those forms on file at school so they can receive those services that our provided at our schools,” Carter said.
