Columbus County sheriff releases statement on murder of 7-year-old child

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — While the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office has released few details on the shooting at a home in Chadbourn that claimed the life of a 7-year-old boy, they have finally released a statement regarding the murder.
Antonio Jamal Maultsby, Jr., 7, was killed Saturday night at 2089 Braswell Road.
“Our hearts ache for the family and loved ones of Antonio. This is an unimaginable tragedy, and our thoughts and prayers are with them during this incredibly difficult time,” Sheriff Bill Rogers stated in a release.
The sheriff’s office said is has been investigating and pursuing every lead ‘until we find answers and hold those responsible accountable for their actions.’
No other details have been released at this time.
Earlier this week, the sheriff’s office provided the incident report which listed multiple victims in the home, but whether they were actually injured or just in the home has not been confirmed to WWAY.
The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office is offering a $1000 reward for anyone who can provide information leading to the arrest of the shooter.
