Columbus County Sheriff’s Office hosts ‘Unity in Our Communities’ event in Whiteville
COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A public forum was held Saturday by law enforcement in Columbus County to hear feedback from residents.
The ‘Unity in our Communities’ even was held at Whiteville High School auditorium.
The forum organized by the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office invites all residents of the county for a one-on-one question and answer session with local officials and law enforcement.
Columbus County Sheriff Bill Rogers says the forum helps law enforcement better serve their communities.
“This is one of our first forums we gon’ have,” Rogers said. “We gon’ try to have another one. It’s such a location here in Whiteville, we just want to get everyone together and try and get on the same page, and let’s start doing things for our kids in our county to help our violence and our crime rate.”
Rogers says one of the challenges the Sheriff’s Office faces is filling several deputy vacancies, which they are working hard to remedy as new candidates complete Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET).
