Columbus County students get hands-on career experience at “Touch A Truck” event
When Columbus County school says they want to give hands-on training, they mean it. Kids got a hands-on look at different careers today at Southeastern Community College in Whiteville during their “Touch A Truck” event.
Thousands of kindergartens through 8th grade students showed up at Southeastern community college’s “Touch A Truck” event.
They explored everything from law enforcement vehicles to tractors, utility trucks, and emergency response equipment. and even climbed into an ambulance!
Eighth grade student Sara Anderson from Whiteville Township School wants to get into the healthcare industry. She was inspired by today’s event and has huge future aspirations.
“I would love to go to the four-year university UNCW in Wilmington. I’m between a therapist and a cosmetologist,” said Anderson.
Southeastern Community College Associate Vice President Angie Ransom says events like this show students they don’t have to leave their community to start building a career.
She says she hopes today opened their eyes to what’s possible.
