Columbus County woman arrested following child abuse investigation

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Columbus County woman has been arrested following a child abuse investigation.
According to a news release, deputies responded to a home on Jefferson Street on October 4 after receiving a report of possible child abuse involving a 12-year-old. When they arrived, deputies spoke with witnesses and began an initial investigation. The child was taken to Columbus Regional Healthcare System for evaluation, and the case was turned over to the Sheriff’s Office’s Special Victims Unit for follow-up.
As a result of their investigation, warrants were issued for Rosalina Baena, 46, of Gores Trailer Road in Whiteville.
Baena is charged with:
- Felony indecent liberties with a minor
- Felony child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury
- Misdemeanor communicating threats
She was booked into the Columbus County Law Enforcement Center under a $50,000 secured bond.
