WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — An argument between a man and a woman turned into a shooting in Whiteville.

Columbus County sheriff deputies responded to a report of a gunshot wound in the 500 block of Jefferson Street on Sunday night.

When they arrived, they found the victim, Floyd Angus, Jr., who had been shot in the elbow. The sheriff’s office says Angus was under the influence of alcohol and in an altered mental state at the time.

Before he was taken to the hospital, officers say Angus told them he was arguing on the phone with his girlfriend Julie Crampton. When he went inside his cabin, the argument continued in person. Crampton allegedly hit him in the head and face multiple times, so he shoved her. Angus told officers that Crampton then grabbed a gun and shot him when he tried to run through the front door, hitting him in the elbow.

Angus hid under a truck and when he saw Crampton leave the home, he ran to a neighbors.

Deputies arrested Crampton at her home on Mt. Moriah Church Road.

She is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and inflict serious injury.

She is currently being held without bond.
