Columbus County woman loses home in storm

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — People across the state are still picking up the pieces from Hurricane Matthew and for one woman from Whiteville who lost everything in the storm, now is all about figuring out what’s next.

Not only did Emily Baldwin lose her home in the storm, she also lost her car after a huge tree collapsed on top of her house. Fortunately her children weren’t home at the time, but if it wasn’t for the tree getting stuck on the refrigerator, she wouldn’t be here today.

The tree took out the kitchen and most of the living room. Some branches even went through the front of the house, but despite everything, she’s just happy to be alive.

“Very thankful I didn’t think I was gonna be, didn’t think I was gonna make it. But God was with me and I did,” said Baldwin.

Unfortunately Baldwin doesn’t have renters insurance, so everything damaged in the storm is gone she has set up a GoFundMe page to help. For more on how you can help click here.
