WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — Columbus Regional Healthcare marked a milestone on Friday with its first-ever organ donation, honoring the donor with an Honor Walk.

In partnership with HonorBridge, the hospital’s staff lined the halls in silence, paying tribute to a life that chose to give others a second chance.

“To the donor and their family: your compassion and bravery have created a legacy of healing and hope. You are heroes in every sense of the word,” the hospital said in a post on Facebook.

The hospital called the moment a sacred one, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the hospital’s journey.

According to national statistics, one donor can save up to eight lives and improve many more.
