Communities still surrounded by water nearly 2 weeks after storm

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Parts of Bladen County are still in pieces after Hurricane Florence. While flooding has gone down in a lot of areas, but it is going to be long recovery.

Homes still have entire lakes surrounding their yards. Crews say a lot of people do have power now.

Several roads are still washed out in Kelly, leaving some homes on an island.

Residents like John Littleton though have not even been able to see their homes yet. He says he has lived here his whole life and has never seen anything like this before.

“When Matthew came and did that damage, here we are starting all over again,” Littleton said. “We’ve pretty much lost everything there. We lost vehicles. We lost everything except for what we can wear on our backs technically. Like a lot of us, we’ve got to start all over again from like two years ago.”

Littleton just managed to recover from Matthew. Now, he says the county needs to find a way to prevent this catastrophic damage from happening time after time.
