Community brings Brunswick Co. Sheriff’s Office lunch to ‘Back the Blue’
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Community members in Brunswick County took part in a national effort today to thank their law enforcement.
The event is called “Back the Blue.”
Piggly Wiggly in Leland donated food for 250 people and community members baked cookies and brought goodies to thank everyone at the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office and the 911 Center.
Christina Fulford and her friends drove in with cars full of water, cookies, and other treats. Fulford said her friend in Tennessee started “Back the Blue.” She said cities all over the U.S. are participating.
Fulford said it is their way of saying, “Thank you” at a time when the community seems to be divided.
“I have babies obviously and I’m just thankful that I get to raise them in a community that is safe and they are absolutely selfless what they do,” Fulford said. “I know they don’t do it for the paycheck, so we just hope that this is a little thank you and that they know that we are with them and we are behind them 100% and we appreciate everything.”
Organizers hope to have more events like this one all across the cape fear and they hope to make it an annual event.
