Community Christmas dinner spreads cheer across state lines
COLUMBUS COUNTY (WWAY) — It’s the time of giving and spreading holiday cheer, and two Columbus County groups continued their tradition of making spirits bright through food.
Fair Bluff Baptist Church and Mt. Tabor Manna Cafe took part in the 35th annual Community Christmas Dinner event.
The tradition started in South Carolina and has grown to include several communities on either side on the state line. This was the fourth year Fair Bluff took part. and it’s grown every year, as 20 volunteers made around 600 meals for residents, not just in Fair Bluff but in surrounding towns.
Carolyn Foley helped organize the meal prep and says the event is for anyone and everyone that wants a meal.
“You know, some people are not in need but they’re just thankful that you give it to them but some people are needy that get it and it just does good stuff for you,” Foley said.
In Fair Bluff, more than 400 people received meals, with more than 14,000 meals provided across all participating groups.
