Community comes together for Christmas meal
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Volunteers with Grace United Methodist, the kitchen at Biggers Market, and 86 Hunger Now say it truly takes a village to help make sure Christmas meals were served from 1 to 3:30 pm.
86 Hunger Now is a non-profit in the area that aims to help those struggling financially.
Ham dinners were served, and guests could either enjoy them inside the church’s gymnasium or take them to go!
Chef David Scott, founder of 86 Hunger Now, explains how a hot meal can make all the difference:
“I think it’s very important to create a home for people who don’t have one. Even people who do, they’re not gonna cook a ham, they’re not gonna cook a turkey or mashed potatoes for two elderly people, and maybe they can’t afford to. So I’m hoping that just one bite of these meals we are making reminds them of a happy memory.”
86 Hunger Now has also collaborated with the “Warming Shelter ILM,” which operates out of Grace United Methodist Church, serving hundreds of hot meals.
