Community comes together in response to stabbing
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Dozens of New Hanover County residents who live in Summerfield, Wildflower, Weatherwood and Kings Grant came out tonight for a neighborhood watch meeting in response to the stabbing of Ben Privott.
Privott was found stabbed to death last month on Bracken Fern Drive.
Tonight’s meeting was held a 7 p.m. at Broomtail Brewery in Wilmington. Neighbors spoke about taking self defense or firearms classes, notifying the city of any burnt out street lights, and putting up ‘No Soliciation’ signs.
Brad Landreth is a neighbor and Assistant Retail Manager at Broomtail Brewery.
“We definitely wanted to see a lot more people in the neighborhood come together,” Landreth said. “Just to, you know, kind of keep a look out and keep everything safer because, you know, the sheriffs do a great job of patrolling around, but it’s always good to have an extra set of eyes out there.”
“This is in memory of Ben, you know,” Landreth said. “He was a great guy. Everybody that I’ve talked to that knew him, I knew him, um, it’s really sad, and you know at this point we’re trying to move forward, get people feeling comfortable in the neighborhood, and trying to prevent things like this from happening again.”
Landreth added that he’s still praying for Ben and his family.
