Community comes together to save Santa’s home
CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The spirit of Christmas is alive in Carolina Beach, where folks are trying to save Santa’s house.
Residents say a man named Harry Buie has been an icon in town for years.
They often call him Santa, thanks to his long beard. Community member Debra LeCompte said Harry can be seen around town wearing a Santa or Dr. Seuss “Cat in the Hat” hat.
Recently a child who lives nearby said someone needed to fix up Santa’s dilapidated house, so the community is doing just that.
“He’s just a lovable person who lives here on this island that everybody just sees and cares about,” LeCompte said.
Organizers said five contractors are on board with donations of building supplies and more.
There is a GoFundMe page to Save Santa’s House.
The community is also doing outreach and sharing updates through the Team CB Facebook page.
An organizational meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, September 14 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Carolina Beach Recreation Center. Organizers say anyone interested in volunteering is welcome to attend.
