WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The community is invited to show support to Major General Joseph A. McNeil as Ina Brown McNeil will escort her husband’s remains along the highway named in his honor in Wilmington on Saturday.

All are invited to show support to the husband, family man, Willistonian and Civil Rights icon whose commitment to the principles of freedom, justice and equality undergird that watershed moment at Woolworth’s counter in Greensboro, NC, 1960.

As the US and NC Flags fly half-staff, and public, final services commence in his hometown, all are invited to stand along Major General Joseph McNeil Commemorative Way, from Market Street, passing the 1898 Memorial Park and on to MLK Parkway from 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m.
