Community gathers in vigil for missing Wilmington woman

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Through prayer and music, the Wilmington community came together tonight to show support for Ebonee Spears’ family as the search continues for the missing Wilmington mother. Spears has been missing since January.

Although no new developments have been made in the continuing investigation into the disappearance of Spears, that is not stopping people from trying to get the word out. Sheriff Ed McMahon, Commissioner Rob Zapple, and Deputy Chief Mitch Cunningham all spoke to the crowd offering words of hope and comfort.

Spear’s mother, Harriet Rivers, said events like this are key to keeping the message out there.

“When CUE puts on an event, events like this we should have standing room only. And it’s not because I’m saying it because of Ebonee because I had to learn this because of Ebonee, but we have other families out there that have been missing for years and years and years, so we gotta pull together,” said Rivers.

She continues to ask that absolutely anyone who knows anything about Ebonee to please come forward because she said it is never too late. She adds that she hopes events like tonight continue to put out the message to surrounding communities that Ebonee might be somewhere outside Wilmington and she asks for help from people across the Cape Fear.
