Community invited to meet local journalists on Local News Day

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Local journalists in Wilmington are inviting community members to stop by WHQR on Thursday, April 9 for a free coffee and a conversation about what matters most to them as part of the first-ever Local News Day.

The NC News Cafe will be held from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at WHQR’s gallery. The event is free and will give people a chance to meet local journalists and share the issues they care about most.

There’s no program. No panels. Just conversation.

The event is presented by NC Local, a statewide nonprofit news organization, in partnership with WWAY, WHQR, StarNews, Port City Daily, WECT, Greater Wilmington Business Journal and Encore.

Local news is strongest when it reflects the voices of the people it serves.

Local News Day is set for April 9, 2026. Nationwide, the day is meant to help millions reconnect with local news outlets that strengthen communities, keep people informed and hold leaders accountable.
