Community meeting held for potential property rezoning in Seabreeze
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The potential rezoning of a waterfront property in New Hanover County is causing concerns for nearby people.
A community meeting was held Monday evening at Veterans Park to answer residents’ questions about a potential rezoning.
If approved, a waterfront property in the Seabreeze community would be rezoned from residential to commercial, with plans to build a contractor’s office.
The property was originally zoned for commercial back in the 1970s before being rezoned to residential in February.
Michal Dinkins lives next door to the property being considered for rezoning.
He’s concerned about a possible increase in noise that he and his neighbors would have to deal with.
“But the bottom line is that a year from now, the use changes and you have more noise than you thought you were gonna have,” Dinkins said. “You’ve got new parking situations and now we’re having block parties. Here, we’re on the water. Well, the company decided to have a company party.”
The rezoning application for the property has not been completed at this time, but once done, a vote on the proposal is expected at the September 5th New Hanover County Planning Board meeting.
