Community meeting to provide info on impact of PGA Tour stop in Porters Neck

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — In a little more than five months, the PGA Tour will come to New Hanover County. Next week residents in the Porters Neck area will get some information about how the Wells Fargo Championship will impact them.

New Hanover County has announced a community meeting on Thursday, December 8, for residents of Porters Neck and the surrounding community. The meeting will be from 6-7:30 p.m. in the multi-purpose room at Ogden Elementary School, located at 3637 Middle Sound Loop Road.

The Wells Fargo Championship will take place May 1-7, 2017 at Eagle Point Golf Club. It will bring thousands of visitors to the area. The tournament is usually played at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte. It’s moving to Wilmington next year because Quail Hollow is hosting the PGA Championship later in the season.

New Hanover County says at its request, representatives of the Wells Fargo Championship will be at the meeting to listen to community interests and begin to outline plans to address safety and traffic in the area. Representatives from the North Carolina Department of Transportation, New Hanover County and the City of Wilmington will also attend the meeting.

The meeting is open to all who are interested.
