Landfall holds 14th annual Holiday Marketplace
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The community of Landfall got into the holiday spirit Monday night as they held their 14th annual Holiday Marketplace.
Hundreds of people came out to look at and buy a variety of items, ranging from jewelry and clothes to paintings, and, of course, Christmas decorations.
Organized by the Landfall Foundation, this year was the largest marketplace yet, as more than 50 vendors, all Wilmington-based, were spread throughout 7 different rooms in the Landfall clubhouse.
Foundation president Denise Baer said it’s great to have so many vendors be a part of the event.
“It’s such a wonderful feeling,” Baers said. “This really is, it’s really neighbors helping neighbors. We are helping our small business and at the same time, we’re helping people in need by helping the organizations that are really providing the services. So it really makes us feel wonderful.
One of those vendors is Kids Making It, a nonprofit organization that teaches students how to woodwork.
Executive Director Kevin Blackburn said it’s special to be a part of the marketplace.
“It’s great because obviously, it’s a win-win for everyone involved,” Blackburn said. “You’re gaining an opportunity to show people what you have, what you can sell. So many small businesses, non-profits like ours.”
For shopper Abby Ann, this was the first time she had been to the marketplace.
“I didn’t really anticipate the community in Wilmington to be so, like actually, connected and supporting each other,” Ann said. “So being here and seeing like the people that actually make Wilmington run.”
The Landfall Foundation’s mission is to provide support to non-profit organizations serving Brunswick, New Hanover, and Pender Counties.
To date, the Foundation has raised and contributed over $8.6 million to Wilmington area non-profit organizations like Kids Making It.
