Community paints 9/11 mural of remembrance at Rachel Freeman Elementary

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Cape Fear Volunteer Center gave the community an opportunity to show their support of our veterans Saturday to help paint a 9/11 Mural of Remembrance at the Rachel Freeman Elementary School.

Local firefighters, police officers, military, and veterans came together for the event and spoke with kids.

Nathan Gibson, Cape Fear Volunteer Center Managing Intern, says they hope children will always remember to thank those who fight for our freedom.

“I want them to see this and say this was hey that was us and that is who we are as a school and who we are as people, says Gibson. We are honoring the veterans and showing our support.”

Cape Fear Volunteer Center also used the event to help recruit individuals interested in becoming a Big Buddy Mentor.
