Community remembers Mason Richardson

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – In November, 2-year old Mason Richardson was killed in a DWI accident.

Now almost three months later, family and friends met in the parking lot of Independence Mall to hold a memorial, just steps away from the location of the accident.

“I try to do anything and everything to honor my Mason.” Mason’s mother Alexandria Williams said.
Friends and family of Mason Richardson came together to live out that message and honor his life, after his life was lost in November in a DWI crash.
Now his mother Alexandria is left with the memories of her two year old boy.
The community came to support Alexandria and Mason as they remembered his life.
“You never really realize how much people care until you’re put in a situation where you’re like ‘wow, they’re actually taking the time to notice your situation and notice what you’re going through’ and actually being there.” Alexandria said.
Some, including Alexandria, wore shirts with the words “Justice for Mason”.
A message to the man accused of taking Mason’s life.
“I’m hoping that one day when this case is settled, that this man stay’s behind bars for as long as possible,” Alexandria said. “But, when we say justice for Mason we also hope that we can raise awareness in the community so this horrific incident won’t happen or take place in someone else’s life. No one should have to experience losing a two year old to the carelessness and recklessness of a heroin addict.”
Alexandria says Mason will be remembered as a happy young boy who loved to be outside and loved Batman.
“Batman has now become a huge part of our lives, I wear batman every day and I keep his ashes in his little heart on my chain.” Alexandria noted.
Now, it’s the little things that she and his family will hold on to, to remember him by.
Williams said, “You never realize what little things will now be the entire world to you.”
For her other son and her soon-to-be new born daughter, she wants them to know one thing about Mason.
“Their brother, he was amazing.”
